Verizon might be preparing to outbid AT&T for Straight Path Communications, Reuters reports. AT&T last week announced it would be paying $1.6 billion to acquire the company, which recently faced FCC fines for squatting on spectrum. Straight Path’s website insists that Straight Path is a “forward thinking communications asset company” that specializes in “maximizing the value of assets such as millimeter bandwidth licenses for 5G networks.” Reuters points to an SEC filing which indicates some additional parties, widely believed to be Verizon, remain interested in the acquisition. The winning bidder will nab Straight Path’s 735 mmWave licenses in the 39 GHz band — and 133 licenses in the 28 GHz band.
